Self-love is love that you give to yourself and you feel for yourself. It is not selfish or narcissistic. It is pure and in harmony with loving others. It involves caring love, respect, confidence, acceptance, and approval of yourself. It puts you peacefully in the place on this Earth where you, as part of this beautiful Universe, are loved. Self-love is within us all from conception. In childhood, it is maintained by being shown caring attention, approval, praise, acceptance, forgiveness, and unconditional love. When a parent or other person in loco parentis (such as the class teacher) projects their unresolved self-doubts and limiting beliefs, this can affect the growing child. Taking things further, if you are a survivor of childhood abuse or neglect, then chances are that you will have missed out on years of being taught self-love. But the good news is that you can still learn, even if you do not fully love yourself right now. Anyone can learn how to love themselves. Learning to love yourself can be done in one of the following ways:
- By releasing feelings of self-hate, self-loathing, and/or negative self-judgment. The easiest way of doing this is with energy healing techniques, where you are helped to let go of the energy holding these feelings in place. Without these negative feelings, your inner self-love will be free to express itself and free to be. Techniques for doing this include EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), Body Talk, and Kinesiology.
- By embracing positive self-talk, even if it feels uncomfortable at first. Methods of doing this include affirmations, hypnosis, and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming).
- Training in allowing the energy of love into your mind-body and its energy field. Techniques that can help you do this are Reiki, Spiritual Healing, and regular guided visualization.
Once you know how to allow it into your being, self-love is a great gift to cherish and nurture. And true love is unconditional. By its very definition, it has no conditions. It does not come with strings attached. It just is. True self-love is also unconditional. It is without judgment. It may feel strange at first, and you may even wonder how you can deserve this love. But if you love yourself unconditionally, then there is no deserving, no earning, of this love. You simply allow it without question. Learning how to love yourself using these methods can be done from home or you can start with some self-development workshops, join an online self-development forum or course, or do a distance learning course.
